Outdoor Recreation Planner

Duties

  • Serves as a developmental trainee Outdoor Recreation Planner for one or more specifically assigned outdoor recreation programs.
  • Performs a variety of standardized outdoor recreation planning tasks as directed.
  • Researches and analyzes a wide array of recreation related data and information on topics such as recreational use, commercial use, visitation, recreation values, environmental impacts, funding, performance, etc.
  • Receives training to learn how to perform basic fact finding, collect data from surveys and inventories using standardized sampling techniques, maintain databases, monitor/ inspect recreation facilities and/or concessions contracts.
  • Reviews existing recreation program policies, standards, methods, controls, and procedures.
  • Assists higher level specialists and planners with designated portions of monitoring and/or inventory studies and surveys.
  • Develops and maintain effective working relationships with academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and interest/user groups concerned with public land management.
  • Coordinates with managers, planners, and resource specialists to identify recreation program needs on a local scale and develop long and short-term outdoor recreation plans to address needs.
  • Updates and maintains data in an automated systems according to recreation program standards.
  • Recommends changes to operational program aspects.
  • Participates on interagency and/or interdisciplinary teams and committees to discuss recreation planning, management, policies, and procedures up to the State level.
  • Collaborates with others to facilitate partnerships, cooperative agreements, and/or memoranda of understandings with other agencies, institutions, or organizations in order to encourage and facilitate cooperative management strategies.
