Strategic Marketing Assistant

Position Description:
The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (‘Downtown Boston BID’) seeks a highly-motivated and eager Strategic Marketing Assistant for Summer 2023 to support a wide range of marketing initiatives to drive participation in BID events and programs. Two priority focus areas for this role will be (1) exploring creative tactics that grow our ability to communicate with those who visit Downtown [such as surveys or giveaways]; and (2) expanding the use of bilingual media and other partnerships to promote events.
 
About the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (downtownboston.org):
The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (BID) was created by property owners committed to achieving the district's full potential as a premier and vibrant destination. Our mission is to significantly improve the experience of all who live, work, visit, go to school or shop in the Downtown Boston BID by: (1) providing supplemental services to keep the streets and sidewalks clean, upgrade the aesthetic appearance of the district, and make people feel welcomed and safe; (2) promoting and fostering an energetic and thriving business climate in the area; and (3) serving as the voice and advocate for the district.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Strategic Marketing Assistant will primarily support the following areas of the BID’s work:
 
Communications & Marketing
·      Ensure BID events and activities are shared with wide-reaching media outlets and calendar listing services, including those sharing event information in languages other than English.
·      Help manage the organization’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) to drive follower growth, particularly by sharing the photos, videos and experiences of those visiting Downtown Boston.
·      Explore creative use of social media video functions, such as Reels or Stories, to promote events and neighborhood offerings.
·      Improve email deliverability through database maintenance projects.
·      Perform a website audit to help flag outdated content and showcase opportunities to update organizational messaging.
 
Events & Public Programming
·      Lead efforts to build our email list by using surveys, giveaways, hashtags, photo opportunities, and other tactics to capture information from those participating in BID events.
·      Serve as a polite, welcoming, friendly, and helpful representative of the BID while staffing events and programs in the district.
·      Support the BID’s lead event and program staff in setting up, managing, and breaking down events and activities led by the BID or the BID’s partner.
 
Other Special Projects & Assignments
·      Support other BID programs and projects and complete other tasks from the Director of Special Projects, as assigned.
 
Qualifications: 
●       Bilingual candidate strongly preferred.
●       Experience promoting social, educational, cultural, musical, youth, and/or historical events and programs for an audience, or strong demonstrated interest in the same.
●       Be fun and enthusiastic about your work and our mission.
●       Strong customer service mentality, poised under pressure, flexible, and open to change.
●       Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously in a sometimes fast-paced environment
●       Socially conscious, with a passion for equity, inclusivity, urbanism, and place-management.
●       A basic understanding of graphic design principles and software such as InDesign, Lightroom, Canva Photoshop, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite applications is a plus.
 
Logistics & Compensation Details: 
●       Organizational work hours for office-based staff are generally Monday through Friday (9a-5p), though this role will require some flexibility and an ability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends for programs and events. 
●       The role will be paid a stipend of $1,350 per pay period (pay periods are twice monthly)
●       This role will be both office- and district-based, and will offer only limited remote work (10% or less).
●       The role will require some bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, climbing, and lifting as necessary to perform assigned duties.
