Guide I (PORTS) - Hearst Castle - Hilltop

The reporting location for this position is the Guide Facility at Hearst Castle. This position will work under the direction of a Guide II Supervisor.

As a Guide I, you will develop, manage, and present high-quality, engaging, and curriculum-aligned K-12 educational programs for distance-learning via the Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students (PORTS) program, along with related outreach and promotional initiatives. You will also be responsible for conducting tours of the facility, assisting in related interpretive (storytelling) activities for the tour program at Hearst Castle and the District, guarding and protecting the District’s resources, and serving in a public assistance capacity. Work shift times vary and will include evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position requires working indoors and outdoors, with stairs and uneven footing in any kind of weather. 

Working days will be either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday. Applicants must be able to travel throughout the State and to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
 
This position requires a valid California Class C driver’s license.

You must complete the Guide I - Historical Monument Exam in order to apply for this position.

The minimum qualifications are below:

Six months of experience as a Guide Trainee, Historical Monument (working for the State of California)
OR
One year of experience involving major emphasis on oral presentations before groups. (Education of college level may be substituted for up to six months of the required experience on the basis of two years of college being equivalent to six months of experience.) and the equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
