The Finance Strategic Capabilities Unit delivers the expertise and business acumen to increase value across the enterprise by providing actionable information with recommendations and opportunities to drive sustainable business growth.
The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides interns with practical experience working on relevant projects while working with designated mentors; access to state-of-the-art equipment; a competitive wage; relocation reimbursement; in-house training; group activities; possible future employment and the ability to participate in the Ball Aerospace Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) program to build and launch a rocket or high-altitude balloon. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to prepare and deliver a formal presentation of your project work to your respective department.
Intern – Financial Reporting and Government Accounting
What You Will Do:
- Assist in the overall enhancement and development of the Accounting & Compliance Center of Excellence, specifically supporting the Financial Accounting & Reporting and Government Accounting, Business Compliance & Ethics organizations.
- Maintain and further understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS); apply concepts to assigned tasks to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Increase the company’s profit/cost recovery by supporting Government audits of Ball Aerospace financial records and systems.
- Support the implementation and improvement of departmental processes that streamline reporting, audit support, and/or training.
- Actively participate in the month-end close and financial reporting process.
- Verify costs are recorded and allocated properly per accounting system design set-up.
- Verify accuracy of monthly financial statements.
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement balances between the Aerospace and Corporate systems at month-end.
- Complete special projects at the request of financial accounting management and/or Strategic Business Units/Strategic Capabilities Units personnel.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
- Must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2024. We will also accept students enrolled in a graduate degree program.
- Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Accounting or Finance degree fields.
- Excellent work ethic, self-motivated, well organized, and the ability to work independently while following management direction.
- Ability to work well in team environments.
- Solid proficiency in MS Excel, ability to read and understand government regulations.
- Willingness to learn outside of their field of expertise.
- Important to have some understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $17.00 - $22.85 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
