The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency’s (CASR) mission is to act to proactively mitigate climate change urgently. CASR’s High-Performance Buildings and Homes team works to make all new and all existing buildings and homes net zero energy, more sustainable, and more resilient. Net Zero Energy means highly efficient, all-electric, grid flexible, and powered by 100% renewable electricity.
What You’ll Do
CASR's Buildings & Homes team is seeking an Intern to provide technical assistance and support in developing the team's buildings data infrastructure. This role will report to the Buildings Data Analytics Specialist and be integral to the Buildings Data team.
As an Intern, you will get to experience:
- In developing data infrastructure and assisting with data quality and assurance checks. As a result, you will be gathering and refining data, documenting and developing metadata, auditing existing datasets, defining their use cases, and writing other characteristics.
- You will build an accurate list of all buildings and homes in the City by coordinating with other City Agencies and External Contractors to gather and refine necessary data.
- Creating data visualizations through PowerBI and storytelling through data
- To providing program support through data collection, analysis, program evaluation, and monitoring key performance metrics related to energy efficiency and electrification pilots.
- Other general programming support through research, events, communications, and collaborating team member contributions.
- Working on other ad hoc tasks based on the team's initiatives.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have/be
- Pursuing a certificate, licensure, or degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or in a similar field
- Ability to intern 20 to 30 hours per week starting October 2023 until March 2024; possibility to extend
- Previously completed and passed a course in either Excel, MySQL, or SQL
- Able to manage and synthesize data
- Able to use critical thinking skills and use data to point out patterns or challenges and can provide solutions or recommendations
- Familiarity or high interest of Microsoft PowerBI
- Interest in sustainability and or energy efficiency
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associate, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
- Experience: None
- Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
- License/Certification Requirement: By position, may require a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Location Flexibility
The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. (Unless position is fully onsite, if so explain that here for fleet, field, etc.)
